Shop Cake Boxes
Not sure which type you’re after? Three types of cake boxes here, each doing the same job in a slightly different way.
Plain Cake Boxes
Everyday white boxes for single and layered cakes. The workhorse of any bakery.
Tall Cake Boxes
Extra height for toppers, candles, drips and stacked tiers.
Cupcake Boxes
Boxes with inserts that hold cupcakes still, so they don’t slide into each other.
What Size Cake Box Do I Need?
Pick the box too small and it wrecks the icing. Too big and the cake slides around on the drive over.
Here’s the rule most bakers miss. Match the box to your cake board, not the cake. The board is usually the same size as the cake. Your box wants to be about 2 inches bigger than the board.
Cake size | Board size | Box size to order |
6 inch | 6 inch | 8 inch |
8 inch | 8 inch | 10 inch |
10 inch | 10 inch | 12 inch |
12 inch | 12 inch | 14 inch |
That covers width. Height is the other half of the job. A single sponge doesn’t need much depth. Tall buttercream, toppers or stacked tiers need a proper tall cake box
Which Cake Box Is Right for Your Cake?
Plain vs windowed cake boxes
Plain boxes for a clean look and easy recycling. Windowed boxes suit retail and gifting, so people see the cake without lifting the lid.
Standard vs extra-strong (corrugated) boxes
Standard cardboard handles everyday sponges fine. Corrugated is the one you want for heavy, tall or multi-tiered cakes that need to hold their shape in transit.
When you need a tall cake box
Toppers, candles, tall drip cakes and stacked tiers all need the extra headroom. A tall cake box gives you that.
Boxing cupcakes
The insert is the bit that matters. It stops cupcakes sliding around and smudging into each other. Common counts are 1, 2, 4, 6, 12 and 24. Tall swirls need a deeper box.
Why Bakers Choose Our Cake Boxes
Simple reasons, mostly. Here’s what bakers tell us matters:
- Food-grade cardboard that’s safe sitting right against the cake
- Flat-packed, so they pop up in seconds on a busy morning — no glue, no tape
- Strong enough to protect decorations, tiers and toppers on a bumpy drive
- Recyclable card (peel the film off first on windowed styles)
- Bulk and wholesale prices for bakeries and cafés — plus smaller packs if that’s all you need
- UK stock, out the door fast from Bradford
Cake Boxes, Cake Boards and Cake Drums — What’s the Difference?
Three things, easy to mix up. The box protects and carries the cake. The board is the flat base the cake sits on. The drum is a thicker, sturdier board built for heavy or tiered cakes.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size cake box do I need?
Match the box to your cake board, not the cake. The board is usually the same width as the cake, and the box wants to be about 2 inches bigger. So an 8 inch cake on an 8 inch board goes in a 10 inch box.
How do I move a tall or tiered cake safely?
Use a tall cake box with a sturdy base, ideally a cake drum underneath. Keep the box flat on the car floor, not on a seat. Go slow on corners and brake gently.
Are your cake boxes recyclable and food-safe?
Yes. Our boxes use food-grade cardboard that’s safe against the cake. The card is recyclable — just peel off the film first on any windowed styles.
Do your cake boxes come flat-packed and are they easy to build?
They arrive flat-packed to save you space and money. Most pop up in a few seconds with no glue or tape.
What’s the difference between a cake box and a cake board?
The board is the flat base your cake sits on. The box goes around it to protect and carry the cake. Most cakes need both.
Do you deliver across the UK, and how fast?
