Pick the Right Tape in 30 Seconds
Here’s the short version, by what you’re sealing:
- Brown boxes or a tidy look → brown (buff) tape hides the seams
- White or printed boxes → clear tape, so it barely shows
- Delicate items → fragile printed tape warns the courier
- Heavy or overfilled boxes → go for the strongest hold and run two strips
Match the tape to the box and the job’s half done
Brown, Clear or Fragile — What We Stock
We keep three plastic packaging tapes, and each has its own job.
Brown (buff) tape is the classic. It gives a clean, professional finish and hides the seams on a cardboard box. Clear tape does the opposite job. It goes almost invisible on white or printed boxes, so your branding still shows through. Fragile printed tape is the one people forget. The bold print tells the courier to handle with care, which cuts damage on delicate orders.
What the Tape Is Made From
The film is BOPP, a strong stretched polypropylene. That’s why it resists splitting, peeling, and lifting off the box once it’s down. A high-tack adhesive grabs cardboard, paper, and plastic fast, so the seal holds in transit. Being polypropylene, the tape can go in the recycling with the card at most kerbsides. Check your local rules, as they differ.
One roll, one pass, and the box stays shut. That’s the whole point.
Pack Sizes and Prices
Tape is cheaper by the pack, so we sell it in cases:
- 6 rolls — small sellers and home use, from £12.00
- 12 rolls — steady weekly posting
- 18 rolls — busy shops
- 36 rolls — highest volume, up to £66.00 the case
The more rolls in the pack, the less each roll costs you. A 36 case works out far cheaper per roll then buying sixes.
Get a Better Seal
A few small things make a tape hold better. Use a tape dispenser, so the strip goes on straight and tight, with no wrinkles. Seal the middle seam first, then run tape across both ends to make an H. That H-seal stops the flaps popping under weight. For daily posting, buy a case, so you’re never mid-order with an empty roll.
Order before 2 PM on a weekday and it ships the same day. Spend over £50 and UK delivery is free.
Plastic, Kraft or Water-Activated?
Plastic tape is the cheapest option and handles most everyday boxes. Kraft paper tape is the plastic-free choice, and it recycles with the cardboard. Water-activated tape wets to bond into the box, so it can’t be peeled back without showing. Keep plastic for daily posting, and pick one of the others when the look or a tamper-proof seal matters.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the strongest plastic packaging tape for heavy boxes?
BOPP tape is strong for its weight and resists splitting. For heavy or full boxes, run two strips and use the H-seal across the ends.
Brown or clear tape — is there a difference?
Only in looks. Brown hides the seams on cardboard; clear goes near-invisible on white or printed boxes. The hold is the same.
Does it stick to recycled cardboard boxes?
Yes. The high-tack adhesive grabs recycled board fine. Press it down firmly and give it a few seconds to bond.
Do I need a tape dispenser?
Not essential, but it helps a lot. A dispenser gives a straight, tight seal and speeds up packing on busy days.
What pack sizes do you sell?
Packs of 6, 12, 18 and 36 rolls. The 6 starts at £12.00, and the 36 case is the best value per roll.
How fast is delivery?
Order before 2 PM on a weekday for same-day dispatch. UK delivery is free over £50.
